Britain’s favourite Venue and Theatre Building

The Winter Gardens Blackpool has entertained and welcomed crowds of revellers in its collection of theatres, ballrooms, exhibition halls and public spaces, since opening in 1878. Amongst its many venues is one of the UK’s largest theatres, The Opera House, which has a capacity near 3000. The Opera House continues to attract the biggest touring shows and events from across the globe. The adjoining internationally revered Empress Ballroom is home of the Blackpool Dance Festival, PDC World Matchplay darts, iconic gigs and many more illustrious events. The Winter Gardens Blackpool is committed to delivering an eclectic and popular range of events, shows and conferences from around the world.

The Winter Gardens has recently seen a £1.25m refurbishment to the  Church Street entrance, Rotunda and Floral Hall along with the stunning interior of the new Café facility covered up since the late 1960’s.

One of the most exciting discoveries during the works was the uncovering of the plasterwork designed by renowned film set designer Andrew Mazzei in the former Floral Hall Bar. The plaster had been covered up when the space was converted to an amusement arcade but remarkably survived along with its original mirrors almost completely intact. It has now been completely restored and re-painted to form the new Café area serving the Floral Hall and the core of the complex.
This café area utilises Mazzei’s unique interior to create a fantastically quirky ambience and a high quality facility to encourage the public back in to the complex. The new Café is called Mazzei’s.

Some features of the Winter Gardens include:

The Blackpool Opera House is one of the largest theatres in Europe, with a capacity of 2,813. Usually used for theatrical performances, the venue will bring a sense of charm to any event.

The Opera House is an ideal venue for conferences, presentations, and seminars, thanks to its traditional seating layout, which is split across three levels. Stall seats are located directly in front of the stage, and additional seating can be found in the circle and balcony areas. All seats have a fantastic view of the stage, ensuring guests will always have a great view of what’s happening.

The Opera House is also equipped with modern audio and visual technology. It features one of the largest digital cinema screens in the north-west, as well a state of the art surround sound system – perfect for bringing any presentation to life.

  • The stage features a 1/36 rake and orchestra pit when required.
  • The venue In isolation boasts 17 dressing rooms.

The Empress Ballroom is one of the most popular venues within the Winter Gardens complex. It has been enjoyed by delegates at conferences and events of all shapes and sizes throughout the years.

The venue is perhaps most well known for regularly hosting the annual party conferences of the big three political parties in the UK, Labour, the Conservatives, and the Liberal Democrats, throughout the late 20th century.

With maximum capacity of 3000, the Empress is a very flexible space. Its layout can be arranged to suit the needs of any event. It is possible to customise the space with various seating arrangements, as well as utilising the venue as an exhibition space where delegates are free to walk around and explore.

The Empress can also be used in conjunction with our other conference and events venues, and is also directly linked to the Olympia Exhibition Centre.

Venue features
